Algorithms and Computing
Research Agenda
The Algorithms and Computing research cluster focuses on the design, analysis, and optimisation of algorithms for large-scale and complex computing systems. It addresses the growing computational demands of science and industry driven by advances in high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML), with a strong emphasis on performance, scalability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Research spans numerical and graph algorithms, optimisation techniques, distributed and parallel computing, cloud computing, and advanced programming models and runtime systems for heterogeneous, massively parallel computing architectures. A particular focus lies on the algorithmic foundations for data-intensive applications, large-scale scientific computing, and AI/ML workloads. By integrating innovations in algorithms, optimisation, and programming models, the research enables reliable, efficient, and sustainable digital infrastructures and next-generation intelligent computing systems.
